Rosemary is used a lot both because it is able to flavor any dish, and because it has a reduced calorie content which makes it suitable even for those who follow a weight loss diet. Belonging to the Lamiaceae species, rosemary grows spontaneously throughout Europe but also in Asia and Africa, especially in the Mediterranean areas with a temperate climate. And just rosemary is one of these rich in beneficial effects for the human organism. Also used in cooking, this shrub fully releases the properties it enjoys: in addition to flavoring dishes it detoxifies the body and promotes regular digestion; also for this reason it is recommended in diets, one of the few condiments granted since it does not contain fats. Its use is frequent in the Mediterranean diet contributes to make it a nutritionally correct diet. Rosemary was also widely used by the ancients, who already knew its properties; the Egyptians, in particular, were convinced that rosemary gave and symbolized immortality. This is thanks to the large amount of flavonoids contained in rosemary, whose action also has a positive effect on the liver, the organ that is most affected by a wrong lifestyle and accumulated stress. When not combined with other foods, rosemary is used to prepare excellent infusions that fight fatigue, stress, cholesterol, liver disorders and even depression; this era is also used to prevent such ills, since it activates and protects the adrenal glands.
Rosemary decoction preparation
Prepare an excellent decoction of rosemary is very simple. First of all, we need rosemary that we can pick ourselves, preferably in the warm season, especially in the months of May and June, when the shrub enjoys maximum proliferation.
Rosemary can be used both freshly picked and dried in a cool and above all dry environment, preferably hung with spines. The only thing to do is to boil water; then just pour it into a mug and add a tablespoon or two of dried rosemary leaves. Before drinking the infusion we must let it rest for about twenty minutes. Only then can we filter it with a sieve to remove the rosemary leaves. Drunk after a while, this infusion is an excellent digestive, while if you want to enjoy its relaxing and energizing power you should take it every day two or three times a day, always after eating.
Even the herbs have small side effects that you need to know to avoid incurring unpleasant problems. Like all plants with an energizing action, rosemary should also be carefully measured, avoiding excessive quantities. Particular attention should be paid to those suffering from high blood pressure, those suffering from seizures, pregnant or breastfeeding women and those suffering from generalized anxiety and insomnia.
