Clematis (another name is clematis) is a perennial garden vine that delights with bright, large flowers throughout the summer season.

Its flexible strong branches can stretch up to 3 meters in length, over time, ligneous.

Because of this "creep" of clematis, it is used to decorate a garden plot, for vertical or ground cover landscaping.

In order for the plant to bloom magnificently in your garden, it must be transplanted correctly. Transplanting clematis is usually done in spring or autumn.

Preparing a flower for transplant

Requirements for seedlings:

  • age: one or two years old;
  • appearance: "rosette" of overgrown roots that sprouted (sometimes with sprouted buds). Sometimes a thin dryish stem is visible - up to 20 cm;
  • with an open root system or in a container.

Before planting, you need to inspect the seedlings. If the roots are dry, the plant should be kept in cold water for several hours.

In order for clematis to feel good, it is necessary to create the right conditions for it, and then rapid growth and flowering are guaranteed!

Before choosing a place for a transplant, make sure that the following conditions are met there:

  • light: clematis prefers a place where there is a lot of sun. In this case, you need to ensure that it is protected from the wind;
  • soil: fertile, loose, fertilized. The composition is loamy, neutral (or slightly alkaline). It must be permeable, otherwise the plant will die;
  • fertilizers: for transplanting clematis, it is undesirable to add fresh manure;
  • moisture: the plant does not like excessive moisture, so you need to choose a place where groundwater does not pass;
  • top dressing: the plant needs it throughout the season, at least 4 times. It is better to add mineral fertilizer with microelements, alternating it with organic dressings;
  • soil temperature: for clematis, it is useful to regularly loosen the soil, and then mulch it with sawdust or humus (layer height - 5-7 cm).

How to grow astilba? You can find the answer by following the link: sad / tsvetochnyj-sad / vyrashhivanie-tsvetov / astilba-boginya-tenistogo-sada-sekrety-vyrashhivaniya.html

Choosing a place for a transplant

The ideal place is a hillock or a small elevation that you can make on your own. It should be borne in mind that the grown roots of clematis can be up to 1 meter in length, they should not get into the groundwater.

Clematis is a vine, so he needs support. This can be a special device (trellis or pergola), or you can simply plant seedlings near a concrete or wooden wall or near a fence.

In this case, it is important that simple conditions are observed:

  • the distance from the wall must be at least 50 centimeters. Otherwise, the sprouts will die due to lack of moisture;
  • during rain, streams of water should not fall on the plant from above, otherwise it will die;
  • clematis seedlings are located at a considerable distance (about one and a half to two meters) from each other, so that they have enough space for growth and nutrients.

Transfer time

Clematis is usually transplanted in the spring.

We will make sure that the place where clematis will grow is not flooded with water.

To do this, you need to dig a deep square hole (about 60 cm in depth and width), fill its bottom with drainage (this can be expanded clay or fine gravel).

Then you need to prepare the soil. Stir the soil taken out of the pit with fertilizer. To do this, you need humus (you can take compost), peat, as well as superphosphate and complex fertilizers.

Approximate proportions:

  • humus - 20-25 kg;
  • peat - 15 kg;
  • dolomite flour and superphosphate - 100 g each;
  • complex fertilizer - 150 g.

The prepared mixture must be poured into the pit and watered well - so that the level of the mixture in the pit rises and is five centimeters higher than the ground cover.

You can prepare and fertilize the soil in advance: the best option is to make the mixture a year before planting, then the soil will be well saturated with lime material and settle.

We transplant clematis

First you need to make a shallow hole. To do this, with a scoop in the center of the hole, you need to make a depression (about 5 cm).

Free the seedling from the pot, hold it with your hand, and place it in the hole. In this case, it is important that the plant is deeper than in the pot, five centimeters.

Compact the earth around the clematis sprout, add sand to the root collar. During the season, you need to add earth all the time to the hole in order to level the layers.

It is good to shed the planted plant.

If necessary, you can add a little dry earth.

It is good to mulch the soil around clematis. A mixture of pine bark and compost is useful for this, you can take already rotted manure. Fine gravel can also be added to the base of the plant. The main thing is that the roots of clematis do not overheat.
